Early Childhood Educator

Muskoka Lakes Preschool is a licensed non-profit childcare centre that has been providing childcare in the Muskoka Lakes community since 1987. Our hours of operation are from 7:30am-6:00pm. We provide programming for children from the ages of 18 months to 12 years.

We are located in Glen Orchard Public School, near Port Carling and Bala, in Muskoka.

The duties and responsibilities of the Registered Early Childhood Educator shall include but are not limited to the following

• Responsible for planning and implementing an appropriate written program plan that will be reviewed by the Program Coordinator
• Respond with sensitivity to the needs of individual children and their families, respecting diversities in age, sex, developmental level, religion, sexual orientation, and cultural background.
• Read the communication book before starting shift and read and update the room communication book daily.
• Plan and implement the daily program. This program shall include but not be limited to:

a) Shall contain a variety and balance of activities to enhance the children’s development in the following areas: cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, creative, science, sensory, social and emotional;

b) Shall be appropriate to the age, developmental level, and interests of the children;

c) Shall provide for emergent curriculum experiences to build on children’s immediate interests

d) Shall consist of individual, small and large group activities, activity centres, outdoor experiences and field trips;

• Responsible for recording details on all necessary daily reports including but not limited to attendance, cleaning procedures, playground checks, medical administration
• Responsible for the accurate reporting of accidents, incidents and occurrences as required, having appropriate signoffs in a timely manner
• Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs. Recommend referral of children to outside agencies for special needs. Complete developmental profiles.
• Discuss children’s progress/behaviour/health with parents/school staff as necessary.
• Regularly evaluate the program to ensure it meets the needs of individual children and the needs of the group; set goals and meet licensing criteria;

**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY**

• Acts as lead staff when working with early childhood assistants (ECA), and supply staff.
• Directs and supervises teaching assistants, supply staff, and volunteers
• Assist Senior staff in evaluating placement students
• Responsible for the constant supervision, safety, and well-being in a classroom of 10 Toddler age, up to 20 Preschool age, or up to 30 Primary/Junior age.

**WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES**

• Able to walk up 3 flights of stairs
• Lift and/or move between 10 pounds up to 30 pounds.
• Must be comfortable being in the water on swim trips.
• Frequent combinations of sitting, climbing, standing, walking, balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, and crawling
• Combination of indoor and outdoor environments daily

• Early Childhood Education Certificate or Provincially recognized equivalency (SSW and OCT).
• Knowledge of the CCEYA, How Does Learning Happen and the ELECT document
• Safe Food Handlers Certification (optional)

**employment requirements**

• Maintaining RECE status in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators, proof of membership must be provided annually.
• Current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Valid Standard First Aid training and Level “C” CPR
• Health Assessment, T. B. test, up-to-date immunizations,
• Signing off all Muskoka Lakes Preschool’s policies annually. These include but are not limited to: Program Statement, Behaviour Guidance, Child Abuse, Bias Free Policy, Serious Occurrence, etc.
• Working knowledge of “How Does Learning Happen?” and the ELECT document
