**Primary Purpose**

University Canada West is a business and technology focused, independent post-secondary institution, modeled after special purpose teaching universities. The University has two campuses: West Pender and Vancouver House and its population of international and domestic students is growing substantially. The Library reflects the focus of the University with a particular emphasis on resources relevant for contemporary business and technology. UCW librarians provide resources and services to students studying in person at both Vancouver campuses as well as online. Librarians advise students and faculty on discovering, accessing, and effectively using the full range of information resources available to meet their teaching, learning and researching needs. The UCW library has an expansive network of connections with libraries and librarians from public post-secondary institutions and the private academic sector.

**Specific Responsibilities**
- **Electronic Resources**: Manage the library’s digital resources and related library systems; including discovery services, authentication system, integrated library system, interlibrary loan management system, digital repository, Sharepoint, and learning management system.

Examples: managing relationships with electronic resource vendors; analyzing resource use and identifying areas where better promotion or education of resources is required, troubleshooting technical issues, customizing the discovery layer for electronic resources, periodically evaluating and making recommendations to upgrade library systems, working with librarians to manage library websites, and training library staff the use of library systems.
- **Assessment**: Assist in the creation of data metrics, and manage internal library data

Examples: working with librarians to develop and implement procedures to collect and analyze internal library data; develop and maintain operational dashboards using business intelligence tools, assist the Library & Learning Commons Manager in preparing reports.
- In addition, the librarian will play an essential role in ensuring that the operations in the library are running smoothly:

- In collaboration with the Manager and other librarians, develops, manages and assesses information resources to address the teaching needs of the faculty and the learning needs of the students.
- Helps circulate and manage the Library’s print collection, including interlibrary loan, course reserve materials and library equipment.
- Assist with the delivery of existing instructional workshops as needed
- May supervise and collaborate with student librarian and/or student library assistant to work on projects
- Other duties as required

**Position Requirements**

**Competencies**:

- MLIS from an ALA accredited institution required, supplemented by courses in computer technology and/or statistics; academic library/higher education sector experience strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in managing electronic resources, library systems and/or data analysis
- Familiarity with issues involved in developing and managing electronic collections.
- Ability to coordinate the selection, development, and evaluation of new system, to test systems, and to coordinate implementation processes.
- Technical expertise to effectively utilize, monitor, proactively preventing issues and troubleshoot systems used in the delivery and maintenance of systems.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective business relationships with vendors and publishers.
- Technical expertise of one or more of the following software will be an asset:

- EBSCO Discovery Service, Evergreen ILS, Microsoft Power BI
- Strong background in statistical knowledge, data management, data analytics, data governance and/or presenting findings to a non-technical audience
- Strong database design, web design will be an asset
- Experience working with international students.
- Outstanding oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
