**PSA Halifax **is recruiting for a **Shift Manager**
**PRIMARY FUNCTION**:
The Shift Manager, as part of the Execution function of Operations, is responsible for the 24/7 coordination and monitoring of terminal and vessel activities. These activities include vessel, truck, rail operations, general cargo and RoRo. The position will order labour, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreements, with the Council and Locals 269 (Longshoremen) and 1325 (Checkers), as well as deal with all issues concerning safety and security. The position will maintain positive and open communication with customers, (shipping lines, trucking companies, etc.) and provide union supervision to positions such as: Walking Boss, Foreman, Head Checkers, and union labour. The position will ensure safe and efficient operations and prevent and/or resolve issues as they arise, is responsible for effective labour cost management and productivity levels.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Grade 12 high school diploma; along with two years post-secondary education in administration, operations and/or safety.
- At least 5 years' experience working in a marine terminal/industrial environment in the areas of administration, operations/and or safety. Experience in compliance, prevention, loss control and/or risk management techniques, along with their related reporting procedures are also required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Able to deal with a variety of customer demands and challenges.
- Working in a 24/7 operation environment. This position works shift work including nights and weekends.
**COMPENSATION**: Permanent, full time salaried position with an attractive benefits package.
