Manager Pilot Plant Operations

Mangrove is seeking an exceptional manager to build and lead a pilot plant and lab/bench scale operations team. The Manager Pilot Operations will direct and oversee pilot plant and lab scale process and equipment used to develop, characterize, and improve Mangrove’s electrochemical technology with the objective of becoming the lowest-cost producer of high-quality lithium products. As a member of the management team, the Manager Pilot Operations will work collaboratively with other internal functions, vendors, and partners to run and analyse process and equipment characterization experiments. The position offers the opportunity to provide operations and technical leadership to a dynamic team commercializing a technology in the lithium-ion battery space.
**SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES**
**Responsibilities**
- Manage pilot plant and laboratory operations at the company.
- Build and oversee a world-class pilot plant and bench scale operations team.
- Prepare and communicate detailed experimental plans that include resource coordination.
- Use statistical process control to characterize the performance of processes and equipment.
- Prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety, processes, and equipment.
- Write and present results from process and equipment characterization work.
- Manage and communicate a schedule of experiment plans and characterization work. Operations stakeholders include process engineering, advanced development, and business development teams.
- Schedule and implement equipment maintenance and equipment upgrades.
- Identify operating conditions that maximize process and equipment performance.
- Participate in plant design meetings as an operations and maintenance authority.
- Collaborate with technology development, pilot operations and business development teams to demonstrate the technology and manufacturing performance to customers.
**People and Organization Leadership**
- Provide overall leadership to recruit, develop, and motivate a plant operations team.
- Ensure all reports have clear roles, direction and objectives that align with Mangrove’s strategic and operational plans.
- Promote a team dynamic that aligns with Mangrove’s culture and plays an active role in developing the incentives for strong retention. Articulate a compelling story that drives the acquisition of high-calibre talent.
- Provide process operations and equipment maintenance insight into technology and commercialization strategies, and business model development.
- Collaborate and coordinate with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors to deliver ideal operational solutions.
**Skills and Experience**
- BS in engineering with 5 years of experience managing plant operations and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of design of experiments and statistical analysis of data.
- Ability to write clear and effective standard operating procedures.
- Proven ability to create and communicate production schedules and prioritize work.
- Experience managing a team of 10 - 15 engineers and technicians.
