Police-based Victim Service Program

**Job Overview**
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Victim Service Program Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the GOLD RIVER (Nootka Sound) Police-Based Victim Service Program to ensure that the program standards are met. Working within the administrative framework of the Nootka Sound RCMP Detachment, the program receives input from and consults with the Detachment Commander.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide direct services to victims of crime, which may include emotional support, general information, justice-related information and practical assistance and support, assigning volunteers to clients and advocating on behalf of clients when necessary.
- Oversee the volunteer program by advertising for, interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling and evaluating all volunteers to provide practical assistance and emotional support to clients going through the court process.
- Maintain case files, collect statistics, and submit other required documents as well as monthly and annual reports.
- Liaise with RCMP members to ensure their continuing support and participation in referring clients to the program.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with partner agencies, organizations, and the community to ensure a coordinated response to victims of crime.
- Provide public awareness and education programs in the local community and surrounding area on victimization, victim services, and crime prevention.
- Attend Detachment meetings, agency meetings, and interagency meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
**ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of crime and trauma on victims and effective techniques used to meet their immediate needs
- Knowledge of and experience working with diverse populations
- Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrates teamwork and leadership skills
- Knowledge of computers and basic software programs for word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Ability to work independently and to respond to crisis situations
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Diploma in a related human/social service field
- A minimum of two (2) years experience relevant to program requirements
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and available transportation
- Enhanced RCMP security clearance.
**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
This position may be required to work outside of normal hours as the position responds to clients in crisis. The Victim Service Program Coordinator is expected to cope with the pressures of dealing with clients in crisis. Some exposure to demanding telephone callers or in-person visitors. The ability to function independently is an expectation of this position.
**HOURS**
- 20 hours per week - in person in Campbell River and one day a week in Gold River
SALARY RATE:
- $29.17 - $33.49 Grid Level 12- Program Coordinator 1 step 1*
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $29.17-$33.49 per hour
