Trinity College School (TCS) is a leading boarding and day school for approximately 600 young people from Grades 5-12. The School is situated on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Port Hope, Ontario, and one hour’s drive east of Toronto. Founded in 1865, the School places a balanced emphasis on academics, service learning, athletics and the arts - as both a long-held TCS tradition and a thoughtful approach to a 21st-century education.
TCS is currently searching for a strategic, creative and dynamic Communications Officer, who will develop and implement various communications strategies, plans and tactics in support of the School’s internal and external communications initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director - Communications, and working closely with communications team colleagues, the Communications Officer will be highly responsive and customer-service focused, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and will have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities at one time.
The Communications Officer will be keenly responsible for overseeing the School’s social media presence and managing the generation and collection of content needed to support the School’s many communications tools and efforts. They will supervise a large group of student volunteers as part of the communications stewardship program and will play a leading role in managing key programs and projects as assigned by the Executive Director, for example, the School’s campus signage program. A communications professional demonstrating a progressive communications portfolio would be best suited to this newly evolved, intermediate-level position.
**Responsibilities**:
**Social media management**
- Developing and managing a comprehensive social media strategy and presence across multiple channels, leveraging high-quality written and visual collateral to enhance community building, the School’s brand and strategic goals
- Posting and uploading daily to identified social media platforms; monitoring and continuing dialogue on the School’s social media sites (Instagram, Facebook, X, Flickr, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
- Committing to continual enhancement of social media platforms and tools, researching new social media platforms, tools and trends to determine if they support TCS’s goals
- Tracking, reporting and measuring online platforms and engagement to determine effectiveness and support strategic change and/or enhancement recommendations
**Content Production**
- Overseeing the management of the School’s media gallery; supporting online news flow by utilizing strong writing and editing skills to create content
- Leading a large student volunteer team of communications stewards (approximately 20); coordinating and scheduling their efforts to generate and capture content; teaching best practices and basic photography skills
- Maintaining a content posting calendar, identifying photo-worthy opportunities and organizing steward coverage; capturing, editing, uploading images and video content daily
- Aiding in the promotion of programs, initiatives and accomplishments consistent with the School’s mission and identified goals; ensuring content complies with school standards and visual identity program; working collaboratively with others on campus who utilize digital media
**Project & Program Oversight**
- Supervising the student volunteers of the communications stewardship program
- Overseeing, with support from the Executive Director - Communications, the School’s campus signage program
- Monitoring traditional and social media in support of the School’s brand and reputation, identifying changes, opportunities or challenges to the Executive Director - Communications as applicable
**Departmental Contributions**
- Contributing to website SEO maintenance and content production
- Assisting and advising colleagues related to adherence to the School’s visual identity program
- Supporting media relations and media monitoring; assisting with issues management tracking
**Requirements**:
- A university degree (or college diploma) in communications, marketing, public relations, media studies or equivalent experience (communications degree strongly preferred)
- 5 - 7 years of related work experience
- Possess strong writing, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated experience in managing a variety of social media platforms (particularly YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn) in an institutional or business setting
- Experience creating engaging content and messaging in support of varied communications initiatives
- Ability to effectively engage with a wide variety of constituencies in a learning community; comfortable working with and/or leading youth (Grades 5-12)
- Desire to be a part of a team environment; must be mature, creative, reliable and inquisitive
- Demonstrated interest in continuous professional development, growing communications skills
