The Opportunity.
Smart & Biggar is currently looking for a Collections Specialist to join our National Finance Team.
Responsibilities.
- Act as a resource for staff regarding client accounts
- Correspond with clients to request missing information related to incoming payments.
- Address client inquiries promptly and professionally
- Investigate and resolve credits on client accounts, arranging refunds as necessary
- Monitor client accounts for non-payment, escalating issues as needed and coordinating collection efforts
- Investigate account discrepancies and propose effective solutions to mitigate future issues.
- Collaborate with management and colleagues to enhance existing procedures and increase operational efficiencies.
- Assist with other projects and finance/administrative tasks as required

Qualifications, competencies and experience.
- Accounting and/or finance education
- 2+ years related work experience with increasing responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of accounting and accounts receivable processes and best practices
- High proficiency with MS office, familiarity with Elite or Aderant is a plus
- Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Great attention to detail, highly motivated and proactive
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- This role is English essential, but French language skills would be an asset
