CBC P.E.I. is looking for an experienced newsreader for our weekday morning newscasts.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity currently scheduled early mornings Monday through Friday. This role is an on-site position.

Your role

You’re the kind of journalist who loves the adrenaline rush of chasing breaking news and you’re not intimidated by the prospect of changing lineups and rewriting newscasts under very tight deadlines. You embrace the challenge of keeping your newscasts as up-to-date as possible, chasing stories yourself and working to add context and additional content to ensure listeners get the full story.

As the morning newsreader, you will play an integral editorial and leadership role in gathering, preparing and presenting the daily news, keeping our audiences informed about what’s happening now across the province.

You are a key member of the Island Morning team and create engaging current affairs content in addition to the daily newscasts. You will understand the diverse and changing communities of P.E.I. and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.

Qualifications- University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of four years of recent, related experience.- Demonstrated understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Prince Edward Island and to daily news.- Demonstrated connection to and understanding of the diverse and underrepresented communities of P.E.I.- Excellent reporting, interviewing, writing and audio editing skills.- Ability to generate original story ideas and creative treatments.- Strong and engaging presentation style and ease with live, on-air work.- Ability to self-operate a studio audio board during a live newscast.- Ability to quickly cut audio clips from a variety of audio and video sources.- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines, reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.- Familiarity with CBC’s high journalistic standards.- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team.- Creative, flexible, and self-motivated.- Possession of a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company.
