Nature of the work

The position of superintendent of school transportation services entails responsibility for the management of the technical and administrative activities pertaining to school transportation services.

The position includes, in particular, the performance of management duties pertaining to the activities required for the needs analysis, preparation of proposals for the provision of services, management of operations, budget, safety, contracts and customer relations.

The position consists in providing, within the incumbent’s field of competence, advice and expertise to the administrators of the school board so as to promote the optimal management of school transportation services.

Description of tasks

**GENERAL TASKS**
- Participate, upon request, in the consultative process for developing the objectives and strategies of the school board dealing with school transportation services and, where applicable, collaborate with other staff members in determining the annual action plan.
- Contribute to the development and update of the administrative policies and procedures of the school board dealing with school transportation.
- Participate in analyzing school transportation needs, and coordinates the preparation of proposals concerning routes, trips and schedules.
- Participates in the negotiation of and oversees the preparation of school transportation contracts with carriers, private teaching institutions and municipal transit corporations.
- Ensure compliance with all the laws and regulations pertaining to school transportation and, in particular, safety.
- Administers the school transportation operating budget.
- Represent, upon request, the school board on advisory committees on transportation.
- Participate in preparing of and ensures the distribution of documentation concerning school transportation intended for students, parents and schools.
- Participate in the process for resolving complaints from students, parents, drivers, carriers, school administrations and citizens.
- Collaborate with other staff members, upon request, in creating school transportation management tools adapted to the needs of the institutions.
- Upon request, assist and support, school board administrators, school administrators, staff and elected representatives.

**MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN, FINANCIAL, MATERIAL, AND INFORMATION RESOURCES**
- Participate in preparing the staffing plan.
- Participate in selecting staff.
- Supervise and evaluate the staff under his or her responsibility (bus drivers, office staff, and garage personnel).
- Assess the professional development needs and implements a professional development plan of the staff under his or her responsibility.
- Ensures the development and monitors the Transportation Services budget
- Ensure the availability, functioning and proper use of equipment and materials.
- Participate in developing and updating information resources.
- Ensure, in his or her sector of activity, the review and rationalization of administrative practices.
- Represent, upon request, the school board or the administrative unit in matters related to his or her sector of activity. Assume any other responsibility compatible with his or her function that may be assigned to him or her by the immediate superior.Required Qualifications

Meet one of the following profiles:

- Diploma of college studies in a relevant field of study and six (6) years of relevant experience
- Secondary V diploma or valid certificate of qualification for the practice of a trade relevant to the position and ten (10) years of relevant experience
