**Responsibilities**: We are currently hiring a Live-In Home Caregiver to provide daily, live-in support for an elderly widowed woman in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer's and dementia. Due to the nature of personal care, only female applicants are sought. The current needs are general physical assistance and companionship. A major focus of the caregiver’s job is to promote a positive emotional state through positive interaction. This position requires someone with a great deal of compassion and patience. Basic elder care knowledge is required to help in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Live-in Caregiver responsibilities involve light cooking, cleaning and laundry tasks, as well as giving medication reminders. Companionship may include conversations, grocery shopping, outings for exercise, light gardening, etc. The employer has access to HandyDart service, but the caregiver can choose to use her own vehicle and have mileage reimbursement in addition to the regular wage. This is not a doctor or nurse position. **Requirements**: Skills and Experience - Previous experience in home care is an asset but not a necessary requirement. - As an In-Home Caregiver, you should have excellent communication skills, as well as strong social skills, empathy, and patience. - Valid Driver's Licence is an asset. Vehicle with valid auto insurance is an asset. Language - We are looking for a caretaker who has a working capability in speaking Cantonese. Other Requirements - Complete a criminal background check with a vulnerable sector check. - Own cell phone and plan - Provide 1 professional and 2 personal references. **Environment**: The caregiver will be provided a full-sized private bedroom, private bathroom, and access to the full kitchen for use 24/7. Internet and utilities will also be included. The caregiver will expected to work an equivalent total of 8 hours a day between 8AM and 10PM for 5 days a week. "Weekend days" are flexible - the caregiver and the employer can work together to determine those days on a month-to-month basis per needs of both parties. The caregiver will be encouraged to not be on site for 4 hours a day. All statutory holidays will be observed and paid as a full 8-hour day. **Benefits**: Meals - A _minimum_ of two meals per day will be included during days worked for companionship purposes. (The caregiver will be expected to pay for her own choice of snacks and food for non-working days and can use the kitchen fridge and pantry to store personal food items. Should the caregiver arrange with the employer to take their breaks during a mealtime in a working day, the caregiver will forego the meal included). Vacation - For the first 12 months of employment, the caregiver will receive 1 day of vacation per month which can be used cumulatively. - For years afterwords, the caregiver will receive 15 working days of vacation per year.
