Research & Development Lab Analyst

Position Description

Oberland Agriscience is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. We are focused on closing the food loop in our region and making a positive contribution to our planet. Oberland’s high performing team rears BSFL in our zero-waste facility and delivers exceptional productivity per hectare yielding a nutrient rich, low environmental impact protein. Partnering with local food producers and distributors, Oberland upcycles organic by-products such as spent grains from your favourite craft brewery to grow BSFL on an industrial scale. Oberland continues to play a role in a more sustainable circular economy in our region.

Deploying an organic by-products-to-alternate protein approach, Oberland produces several insect derived products. Oberland generates high quality sustainable protein from larvae and a fertilizer product for home gardens and agricultural lands. #closingthefoodloop

We are looking for a committed and engaged R&D Lab Analyst for our facility to contribute to the safe and reliable operation of this unique and cutting-edge farm and production facility.

The context for the role of R&D Lab Analyst is to continuously evaluate and improve our products and investigate new ones.

Key Support Person: Director of Health, Safety and Quality

Functional Responsibilities / Job Duties

Revenue - 100%
- Conduct laboratory analysis for process and product final approval
- Conduct laboratory experiments and tests to support R&D projects
- Analyze and interpret data, prepare detailed reports and presentations of findings
- Develop and validate analytical methods and protocols
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project goals and timelines
- Maintain accurate and organized records of experiments and results
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards
- Stay current with advancements in technology and industry trends

To be a great fit for this role you:

- Have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Plant Science
- Have proven experience in an R&D lab and proper use, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instruments
- Experience in food research, GMP facility, CFIA regulations would be assets
- Detail oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to build strong trust-filled relationships
- Ability to work both independently as well on a team

This is a full-time, permanent position (following 3-month probation) based out of

our facility in the Ragged Lake business park in Halifax.

Pay: $23.50 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
