**Key Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Inspector - Protective Services, the Sergeant position is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the entire NAIT Community. The Sergeant, a frontline operational supervisor, will form part of the supervisory team, comprised of two Sergeants in total. Together and in support of NPS operations, they will share responsibilities and work in tandem to provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, supervisory direction, oversight, performance management and administrative duties to all of the Community Peace Officers, Security Agents and Security Communications Officers.

The Sergeant is also responsible for conducting investigations, completing daily tasks, delegation of I/C assignments, meeting diary dates/timelines, program delivery, ensuring adherence to NAIT procedures/policy, operational compliance with ministerial regulations/legislation, facilitating training/development, liaising with emergency service agencies, providing informational services and addressing security and public safety related situations as required.

The Sergeant will utilize a community-based policing approach and support the Enterprise Security Risk Management model.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, including provincial statutes and Criminal Code of Canada.
- Must be able to coach/mentor and manage performance of subordinates.
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Be able to effectively operate the various systems and software programs in use by NPS.
- Familiarity with investigative techniques, note taking and report writing standards.
- Ability to oversee major incidents and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Must demonstrate strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
- Display attention to detail and have a goal-oriented mindset.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a recognized post-secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field and at least 3 years of diverse law enforcement experience OR Completion of a grade 12 High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a recognized sworn law enforcement environment.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory/leadership experience.
- Minimum 5 years of strong customer service experience.
- Considerable experience of diverse law enforcement preferred.
- Preference may be given to applicants who currently hold a valid certification as a Level 1 - Community Peace Officer or who are eligible to obtain the appointment immediately.
- Satisfactory medical and vision evaluations.
- Have a Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with no more than six demerits.
- Current Standard First Aid, Level C CPR and AED certification.
- Be physically fit and able to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) with a minimum passing score at or under four minutes and forty-five seconds. (4:45).

**Hours of Work**:Rotating shift work, including weekends and holidays, or as required based on operational necessity.
