This vacancy is for a period of 24 months as a result of a backfill.

CityHousing Hamilton, the third largest social housing provider in the Province of Ontario, provides affordable rental housing for the citizens of Hamilton. We are looking for a high performing painting professional who can demonstrate a proven record of quality painting, safety, customer focus, self-motivation and commitment to achieving results and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance, the Painter will be responsible to paint the interior and exterior of structures, buildings, and other surfaces including lobby areas, stairwells, and tenant doors. This role is tenant facing and responsible for quality customer service and a tenants first approach.

**GENERAL DUTIES**
- Assist with preparation of vacant apartments for viewing by preparing and painting units quickly and efficiently.
- Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine time and materials required for jobs.
- Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, and other access equipment, covering fixtures etc.
- Complete on-site cleanup including cleaning all surfaces, removing garbage, scaffolding and equipment storage related to painting activities.
- Remove graffiti, make small repairs and paint to match existing.
- Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping loose paint, sanding, and steam cleaning, patching drywall and small repairs.
- Use and maintain tools and equipment including brushes, rollers, spray equipment, etc.
- Input data into computer software programs such as Northgate, Asset Planner and Excel for work orders.
- Ability to travel to different CityHousing Hamilton locations as required.
- Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Demonstrated ability in the methods and practices sufficient to perform the work outlined above, including knowledge of commercial and residential painting techniques, normally acquired through an apprenticeship in Painter and Decorator - Commercial and Residential or a combination of education and experience. A Red Seal would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to repair and replace drywall and perform small repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and exercise tact when dealing with tenants and staff.
- Knowledge of City By-Laws including animal, pest and noise control, property standards as well as the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, and Housing Services Act, 2011, and CityHousing Hamilton policies and procedures would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of industry standards including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Society for Protective Coatings Standards, National Association of Corrosion Engineers Standards, and relevant Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Ability to perform a variety of strenuous manual operations related to painting including the ability to safely move furniture and major appliances with appropriate equipment, load and unload vehicle. Must be capable of performing overhead duties including but not limited to ceiling painting.
- This position requires a valid class “G” driver’s licence and a provision of own vehicle for use on the job. Additional use of a City vehicle required. Must possess and maintain a driving record deemed satisfactory by the Employer - recent driver’s abstract required upon request.
