**Job Summary**

The Plumber is responsible for plumbing systems including the mechanical system fabrication and maintenance, alteration, small renovation and construction within the campus facilities and buildings.

**Representative Accountabilities**
- Primary Accountabilities_
- Perform duties of a Licensed Plumber in Ontario.
- Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the buildings water, waste and drainage systems, equipment and related components necessary for the operation of the campus.
- Work on all associated piping, including the steam, heating water, condensate, chilled water supply, chilled water return, compressed air, domestic water, drainage and waste piping, as well as other piping systems.
- Review plan, drawings, specifications, to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
- Perform preventative maintenance work. Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Install plumbing and heating systems.
- Install and maintain piping systems conducting the flow of chilled water, air, steam, water, waste and gases.
- Maintain and troubleshoot building’s water, waste and drainage systems.
- Make adjustments and repairs related to plumbing including but not limited to sanitary fixtures, steam traps, pressure regulating valves, fixture trim, waste and soil lines, sewers, piping and other related components.
- Perform pipe-fitting for all tubes of pipe, iron, cast iron, plastic, copper and mechanical joints, using a variety of fitting techniques.
- Update and maintain information and records.
- General Accountabilities _
- Operates within established security and safety regulations.
- Remains knowledgeable and current with trade requirements through participation in courses, instructional seminars and trade shows as required and/or sponsored by the University.
- Communicates with fellow workers, faculty, students, staff and visitors in an appropriate and effective manner.
- In a position of trust, perform job assignments in an efficient and effective manner.

**Qualifications**

**Education**: Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Current Ontario Plumbing Certificate of Qualification. A current and valid Ontario Plumbing License is required.

**Experience**: 5 years of related experience, inclusive of apprenticeship requirements.

**Effort**
- Required to lift and carry equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- Required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to work in awkward positions and to work with hands above head for prolonged periods of time
- Required to concentrate for prolonged periods when performing installation, troubleshooting and repair work.

**Working Conditions**
- Work is conducted in University owned and operated buildings, including mechanical rooms and electrical rooms.
- Work is conducted in a setting with exposure to inclement weather, odours, dust and dirt.
- Exposure to loud noise and vibration from machinery and tools.
- Required to work independently, in teams, alone and/or in isolated work environments.
- Required to work at heights including but not limited to a 50-foot lift.
- Required to operate a motor vehicle or golf cart for transportation on campus.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment.

**Supervision**
- May be required to be a day-to-day resource on work procedures to students and casual staff
