Class 1 Driver

For this position, we are looking for a reliable individual who will be responsible for the transportation of various types of hazardous waste materials both locally, provincially and within Canada. The position will require some overnight and long-haul trips within Alberta, BC, and Ontario (**no US runs**). As a Class 1 Driver you will be responsible for ensuring the safe securement and transportation of all supplies, materials, and equipment as required per business needs. This position is year-round work, paid hourly, with overtime after 44 hours. We offer industry specific training, competitive compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package.

**Responsibilities**:

- Package and transport dangerous goods according to federal and provincial regulations - label, pack and classify materials as required
- Operate transportation equipment (straight or articulated trucks) to pick-up and deliver hazardous and non-hazardous materials and supplies
- Accurately and legibly complete and submit daily vehicle inspections, trip reports and shipping paperwork (including but not limited to manifest and bills of lading)
- Assist operations staff with labour duties while onsite or at home base when needed - ability to lift heavy objects up to 45 kg.
- Loading and unloading of goods
- Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo, including hazardous goods
- Plan travel schedules and routes
- Must be willing to work out of town for up to 2 weeks at a time (Trips between AB, BC, & Ontario) on an as needed basis.
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, brakes and other equipment; report as required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date logbooks, timesheets and IFTA reports
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance
- Label, pack and classify materials
- Maintain workspace tidiness and organization
- Maintain professionalism
- Handle customer inquiries

**Qualifications**:

- Class 1 license and clear 5-year commercial driver’s abstract is **required**.
- Must be able to obtain security clearance
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
- Display and maintain a strong and positive work ethic.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience required
- Waste management industry experience an asset
- Tanker truck experience is an asset
- Hazardous waste management industry experience is an asset
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
