Volunteer Coordinator - Permanent Part-Time (21 hours per week)
The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region (ASDR) is a community support service organization that provides programs and services to people living with dementia and their care partners in Durham Region. We work closely with other service providers to ensure quality care and support for our clients to achieve our mission to improve the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and their care partners.

We employ administrative and fund development staff, educators, social workers, social service workers, nurses, occupational therapists, recreation staff, and volunteers who work together as a team to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their care partners.

As a volunteer coordinator and is responsible for the coordination of agency-wide volunteers by managing the process of intake, on-boarding, and placement of volunteers throughout the agency. The Volunteer Coordinator will also assist with agency wide fundraising events including the recruitment and supervision of volunteers at agency-wide events.

What you will be doing
- **Volunteer Coordination**_
- Responsible for all aspects of the volunteer management cycle including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, and recognition of all agency volunteers
- Ensures volunteer onboarding and orientation is completed as per agency policy
- Develops volunteer job descriptions for all volunteer positions
- Develops appropriate volunteering schedules according to program needs
- Provides volunteer training in conjunction with program staff
- Ensures agency program need for volunteers is met
- Provides ongoing feedback and conducts volunteer role and satisfaction/experience evaluations
- Organizes and implements an annual volunteer recognition event (April)
- Coordinates and provides episodic supervision of volunteers as required
- **Administrative**_
- Develops, implements, reviews, evaluates and updates volunteer policies and procedures
- Assists with agency-wide accreditation and quality improvement initiatives relating to volunteer and student policies and procedures
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation records related to volunteer engagement
- Maintains Durham Region volunteer recruitment websites with current volunteer needs
- Maintains Volunteer Handbook and completes updates as required
- Acts as an agency representative for internal and external committees relating to volunteer services
- Attends community events or recruitment fairs as required
- Assists Fund Development team with fundraising events and initiatives as required
- **Other Duties**_
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

What you will bring along
- **Education**_
- Postsecondary degree/diploma in volunteer or project management, event management, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and expertise
- Certification in Volunteer Administration/Volunteer Management is an asset
- **Experience**_
- Minimum of two years progressive experience in volunteer coordination role
- Experienced in organizing fundraising or special events, an asset
- Strong project management, organizational, time management and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers at all levels of an organization
- Superior communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Experienced at public speaking
- **Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications**_
- Shows initiative, flexibility and resourcefulness
- Demonstrates above average problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Works well as part of a team and is also able to set individual priorities
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Thorough working knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook
- Experience with a volunteer management software an asset
- Experience in a not-for-profit organization preferred
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset
- Flexible with the ability to work evenings or weekends on some occasions
- Valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s license and vehicle available to travel throughout Durham Region
- **Travel Requirements**_
- Travel may be required to meet with volunteers, or attending agency events
