The role
Shaw Cablesystem's Construction department is currently seeking an Installer
A typical day
- Perform connections and the addition of services including the installation of Internet, cable television, Digital Cable Terminals (DCT), Digital Phone Terminal’s (DPTs) and home entertainment equipment
- Respond and resolve customer issues arising from the installation and operation of Shaw High-Speed Internet, Digital Phone and/or cable services
- Respond to customer reported service problems involving analogue, phone and digital delivered services as needed
- Detect, diagnose and correct problems affecting services provided to our customers in a safe and controlled manner, as needed.
- Contribute to the growth of Shaw products and services through the promotion and sale of our products
- Operate and understand test equipment related to the maintenance of 2-way coaxial and fibre systems including system analyzers, field strength meters and leakage monitors
- Work with other technical staff to ensure the correction of customer problems in an effective and timely manner
- Maintain accurate system records and support documentation in relation to all types of work orders
- Ensure vehicle, test equipment and tools are maintained in excellent condition
- Promote a positive image of Shaw products and services while providing exceptional customer service
- Various other duties as needed
Your skills/experience
- Experience in cable television service (either practical or theoretical) or post-secondary education in Telecommunications
- Advance PC hardware and software diagnostic skills
- A+ Certification and experience with RF cabling are considered assets
- Knowledge of cable television and the associated technical and safety standards
- Able to work with others in a team environment as well as deal with the public
- Goal oriented and motivated with the ability to work well independently
- Able to perform work safely in all types of conditions - indoor and outdoor
- Physically able to perform all aspects of the job including (but not limited to) the climbing of ladders, working in confined spaces and the safe operation of hand tools.
- Maintain a valid BC driver’s license and must provide a driver’s abstract annually
- Learn and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety regulations
- Previous Experience with Business/Commercial installations will be considered an asset
- Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work various shifts including weekends and evenings
- A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
