Argus Residence for Young People is an award winning charity that believes all people deserve to have a place to call home and opportunities to thrive. We currently operate trauma informed residences for youth 14-18 who have experienced violence and abuse, and home is no longer a safe option. We provide Prevention and Diversion services to single adults facing the possibility of homelessness and a dynamic Job Skills Employment program for youth which includes hands on training in our Uptown Thrift store located in Preston, Cambridge, Ontario. All proceeds of Uptown Thrift are used to create youth employment.

**Job Summary - Overnight 12 midnight - 8am, weekday and weekend hours needed to be filled.**

**Base pay is $18.11 per hour and all front line shifts eligible for the extra $3.00/hr or $4.50 per o/t hour pay. Wage will then reflect $21.11 for frontline hours and $18.11 for on call or training that is not front line. If asked to provide Prevention Relief, shift rate will be $24/hr.**

Argus Residence for Young People has two trauma informed homes for teenage youth who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. Argus is seeking genuinely caring, dynamic individuals who are interested in substantially raising the bar of residential service delivery and have the ability to implement evidence base strategies that work in the best interest of the youth. This position supports children and youth in a mentoring role, using CARE (Children and Residential Experiences
- Creating Conditions for Change) principles and approaches. The position is responsible for increasing life skills, social networks and fostering a safe, inclusive place for young people to stay and thrive. Specific supports provided include, but are not limited to, the development of Youth-Centered Plans with a holistic focus on education, personal support, community engagement, recreation and fitness and social and life skills development from a residential setting.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for teenage youth providing age appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
- Promotes personal growth of children and youth who are having difficulties coping as a result of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
- Designs, implements and evaluates youth-centered individual plans to aid in transitioning youth to independence or return to home
- Ability to effectively implement a thorough working knowledge of MCCSS compliance and legislation
- Provides recreational, life skills training, cultural and inclusively goals set out by the youth and other stakeholders.
- Enjoys and positive, supportive and professional work culture
- Supports youth to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach.
- Initiates activity groups, related to the specific needs and goals of the youth
- Participates in case conferencing
- Must be willing to maintain clean, organized trauma informed setting for young people
- Maintains accurate and current file records on all youth.
- Maintains awareness of community resources and gaps as well as the socio-economic and geographical make-up of the community.
- Consults with social workers, other professionals, and family when appropriate.
- Post-secondary education in a related field is mandatory
- Good understanding of, and experience working with, children and youth with physical or mental developmental disabilities.
- Understanding of the challenges facing youth with brain difference.
- Experience creating participant-centred plans.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to accommodate developmental needs. Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families and individuals.
- Safe Food Handling - is preferred.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills

Prevention Work Description:

- Working with clients through phone conversations, developing solutions in the area of Prevention and Diversion for those facing barriers in the area of homelessness.
- knowledge of the resources in the Region of Waterloo for individuals, youth and single adults who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, living in poverty, or living with mental health or addiction issues.
- provide shelter client support, intakes and referrals
- perform light housekeeping duties and health and safety procedures
- work in team capacity to ensure a safe shelter stay for clients and meet client needs
