Finance Controller

Our client, a prominent Law Firm located in downtown Toronto, is seeking a Finance Controller to oversee all financial operations within the firm. In this crucial role, the Finance Controller will report directly to the Senior VP, Finance, and collaborate closely with the management team to drive strategic financial planning and decision-making.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead and manage the finance team, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review various financial statements and reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Manage the annual budgeting process, including the preparation of financial forecasts and in-depth analysis of budget variances.
- Ensure strict compliance with accounting principles, financial regulations, and company policies.
- Develop and implement financial controls and procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Provide support during the due diligence process for mergers and acquisitions, involving the preparation of financial models and analysis.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to offer financial analysis and insights on business performance.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, including income tax and sales tax.
- Support the external audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules and liaison with external auditors.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital to maintain adequate liquidity for the business.
- Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
**Requirements**:
**Education**:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or other relevant professional accounting designation is required.
**Experience**:
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role.
- Experience within a law firm or professional services environment is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Excellent analytical skills, including the interpretation of complex financial data.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and other financial regulations, alongside comprehensive knowledge of ASPE standards.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders effectively.
- Experience with financial systems, including ERP systems and other financial reporting tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
