Shop & Yard Helper

**Job Title: Shop & Yard Helper** - Acheson Alberta

**Responsibilities**:

- Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or other necessary equipment for moving, stacking, or storing parts and equipment.
- Regularly driving pickup trucks with attached flat deck trailers.
- Loading and unloading incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Washing and detailing fleet and customer vehicles.
- Assisting mechanics and lift technicians with various duties onsite and at customer sites.
- Retrieving and delivering parts and consumables for the shop.
- Performing snow removal, ice melt spreading, and grass cutting.
- Maintaining good housekeeping standards in shared spaces, work bays, and the yard to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Handling garbage packing and waste disposal.

**Requirements & Skills**:

- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience as a Shop & Yard Hand.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Class 3 driver’s license preferred, but not required.
- Ability to balance and secure loads effectively.
- Forklift certification or prior operating experience.
- Proficiency with technology, including iPads and computers.
- Knowledgeable about diesel engines and industrial equipment.
- Flexibility to work after-hours and travel, including occasional overnights.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Attention to detail.

**Related Physical, & Safety Requirements**:

- Able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 300 lbs.
- Proficient in handling tools and operating equipment.
- Collaborative teamwork skills.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Experienced in confined space work, crawling under or climbing onto heavy equipment, and utilizing Fall Protection when necessary.
- Adheres to safety policies and protocols, including waste disposal practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

**Workstation, Work Environment**:
You will be provided with a personal locker that is your own, and not shared with others, in a conventional shop environment.

A company vehicle will be provided for work purposes only. An ELD and maintenance of daily RODs are mandatory.

As a part of this role, it will be necessary to use Personnel Protective Equipment /PPE when in the shop and yard at all times.

**Location & Travel Requirements**:
You will be expected to work onsite during our regular operational hours. There is anticipated travel associated with this position. Travel is assumed both locally, out of town, and occasionally overnight. When travel necessary, a mutual agreement between both parties will be required before being assigned.

**Employment Type & Compensation**:
Westvac Industrial operates and is open standard Monday-Friday business hours. The position is fulltime and the requirement is to work between the hours of 8:00 - 4:30 (with 30 minutes for lunch, unpaid).

Class 5 driver’s license and a recent drivers abstract are required. Reimbursement is available for costs associated with acquiring drivers abstracts.

A CSA Approved work boot allowance is also available.
