**About The South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA)**:
We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities—a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. As a small rural hospital, we cherish the relationship we have with our community and pledge uncompromising standards to those we serve.

**Position Description**:
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the day-to-day handling of maintenance and repair issues. Maintenance workers provide quality, general maintenance services to Hospital equipment, facilities, and grounds as well as regular trash, recycling and linen collection and disposal. Maintenance workers take a proactive approach to maintenance and upkeep activities but also respond to ad hoc maintenance requests and inquires.

**Responsibilities**:

- Uses safety equipment, personal protective equipment, and lockout/tagout procedures when and where required
- Responds as appropriate during codes, and in equipment failure/emergency situations (including after-hours/on-call)
- Aware of and understands Hospital policies/procedures; contingency plans, employee health policies, infection control practices, WHMIS, department and hospital-wide policies
- Performs basic repairs/maintenance/cleaning to equipment and facilities
- Utilizes the work/maintenance requisition system to track/document activities. Completes repairs as per work/maintenance requisitions
- Performs Preventative Maintenance on assigned equipment on a scheduled basis
- Maintains departmental inventory supplies
- Moves and re-located hospital equipment, furniture, and supplies are requested
- Transports and delivers garbage, hazardous waste and recyclables, per waste regulations
- Assists other staff and Liases with outside contractors as assigned

**Physical Demands**:

- Able to perform repetitive tasks on a continued basis
- Able to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Able to push, pull, lift and move moderately heavy objects
- Able to perform maintenance services both indoors and outdoors
- Able to perform duties on a ladder
- Able to operate machinery such as a lawn mower, snow removal equipment and power tools
- Able to work in how and low temperature environments

**Qualifications (Education, Experience, Abilities)**:

- Minimum of Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Current valid Certificate of Qualification or Trade Certificate would be an asset. Equivalency of experience and education to be assessed
- Previous mechanical trade experience in a healthcare setting or other institutional environment required
- Knowledge of and experience with building automation systems/controls will be considered an asset
- Computer literate
- Excellent communication skills with both internal and external partners
- Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to self-manage, prioritize workload
- Ability to be flexible with use of time
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Able to identify risks, develop solutions, engage in long-term planning, and generate results
- Knowledgeable in safe practice procedures, accident prevention, and proper lifting techniques
- Ability to follow troubleshooting/problem-solving processes and to use testing equipment/devices for this purpose
- Identifies environmental opportunities to improve conditions
- Ability to learn new skills on a continuous basis
