**Job Description: Equipment Operator**

**Position Description**:
Equipment operators are responsible to the safe and effective operation of a wide variety of company equipment. This includes but is not limited to backhoes, excavators and loaders.

**Major Areas of Responsibility**:

- Complete Daily Pre Work Inspection before operating any equipment
- Ensure that all equipment that is not functioning properly is reported on Daily Pre Work Inspection
- Grease all equipment daily
- Fuel all equipment daily
- Clear tracks of debris daily
- Check with supervisors, before work commences, that BC One Call has been notified, and all other utilities in the area have been contacted, and all services have been located
- Read and understand all BC One Call information prior to digging
- Meet with superintendent and foreman before job commences to discuss scope of work and site hazards
- Have a thorough understanding of Stone Pacific Contracting Ltd. safety manual
- Meet with foreman and crew every morning to discuss daily activities and safety concerns
- Inspect equipment at the end of each shift to make sure cabs are locked, night switches are off and buckets are in appropriate place
- Organize necessary attachments for the next days’ work at the end of the previous shift
- Ensure that all open excavations, manholes, and equipment are adequately delineated and barricaded at the end of each shift

**Necessary Skills & Knowledge**:

- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Ability to identify and avoid high risk activities
- Ability to read and follow plans for excavations and grade work
- Demonstrated ability to operate a broad range of excavators, loaders and backhoes
- Familiarity with Cat controls
- Ability to maintain written records

**Education and Experience**:
The following education or experience are required for this position:

- Minimum five years experience in the construction industry
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5, preferably with an Endorsement 20 or equivalent and a satisfactory driver’s abstract
- WHMIS Training

The following education or experience will be considered an asset:

- Occupation First Aid - Level 1 or equivalent

**Physical Demands**:
The physical demands for this job are as follows:

- Lifting up to 50lbs
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Climbing on and off of equipment
- Work in extreme temperatures

**Work Environment**:
The following work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the job holder will encounter
- Work outdoors in all season
- Work around heavy equipment
- Work near traffic
- Exposure to loud noises
- Work near overhead and underground utilities

Pay: $26.00-$38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week

Additional pay:

- Overtime pay

**Experience**:

- heavy equipment operator: 5 years (preferred)
- civil construction: 5 years (preferred)
