**Role**: Shelter Support Worker

**Wage**: $29.00 per hour

**Temporary Full-time, Part-time & On-call**: Between 1 - 3 days per week (12 - 36 hours)

**Hours of Operation**: 7 days per week, 8pm - 8am (Pending project approval, with an end date of April 30th, 2025)

The Nest is a 10 bed shelter which provides safety, connection, and warmth for 10 women who are currently without housing. We are seeking staff who want to support unsheltered women by creating a space that prioritizes dignity and calmness. You do not need to be a woman to apply, as long as you are able to understand, and respond to, the unique needs and vulnerabilities of women in complex situations.

**Responsibilities**:
❖ Provide direct support to shelter residents, addressing their immediate needs and concerns

❖ Offer compassionate, emotional support to help residents navigate challenges

❖ De-escalate inter-personal conflicts that arise within the space, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and the neighboring community

❖ Follow all organizational policies and procedures

❖ Cleaning duties and light meal preparation duties

❖ Engage with our neighbors in a healthy and respectful way; including managing any concerns that arise in real time

❖ Work with residents to create support plans, when appropriate

❖ Connect residents with external resources to meet their health, social and other needs

❖ Maintain accurate and up-to-date administrative records

❖ Create a sense of community within the space by developing trusting relationships with the residents

**Skills**:
❖ Understand the unique and intersecting vulnerabilities that women living unsheltered face, and a desire to continue learning in this regard

❖ Effective communication skills, including the ability to deescalate conflict

❖ Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

❖ Ability to collaborate with both internal and external partners, and work well in a team environment

❖ Ability to use computer software for basic record keeping

**Certification/Education**:
❖ Basic First Aid certification

❖ Class 5 Drivers License

❖ Food Safe certification

❖ Naloxone certification is an asset

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 - 36 per week
