Analytical Scientist/Analytical Chemist - Position Posting

Smallfood is looking for an experienced and highly capable Analytical Scientist/ Chemist to lead set-up and operationalizing our Analytical Lab, located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

- Setting up new analytical instruments and their supporting sample preparation processes to ensure accurate results
- Carrying out literature searches to evaluate currently known analytical methods and preparing analytical research and development plans.
- Developing and implementing sample preparation procedures following established methods and analyze samples.
- Prepare calibration standards, quality standards and checks, and various solutions for analytical methods
- Operation of various analytical instruments (including, but not limited to, HPLC, GC / FID, ICP-MS) and associated software
- Perform volumetric techniques, quantitative transfer, weighing, and other tasks, with a high degree of precision
- Documentation for all laboratory procedures (receiving, inventories, sample prep and analysis, instrument logs, etc.)
- Follow appropriate procedures for interpretation of results prior to completing sample reports,
- Maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting analytical equipment.
- Writing Standard Operating Procedures, technical reports, etc.
- Following the company's quality standard (quality management system procedures and cGMP regulations).
- Training and supervising other team members and co-op students.
- Completes required general lab management and housekeeping of analytical lab.
- Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor's request.

The qualifications and skills required to be a good fit for this role are:

- MSc in chemistry/biochemistry an asset.
- Experienced in protein chemistry is an asset.
- Hands-on experience in analytical chemistry lab, particularly with HPLC and GC methodologies is a must
- Previous experience with method development, validation and implementation
- Working knowledge of computer software including: work processing, spreadsheets, chemical drawing software, online chemical database searches.
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to keep meticulous laboratory and process records
- Ability to execute experiments independently and efficiently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Accuracy and attention to detail; precision; logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Work well independently and in a team environment
- Able to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with colleagues
- Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal/external customers.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
