They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated. Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work. (a) inspects work of all grounds staff, assessing quality of work and reports to Supervisor; (b) arranges and directs training of new staff members in order to ensure all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner; (c) may coordinate shifts in absence of Supervisor; (d) installs and maintains hard and soft landscape, including cultivated and natural environments; monitors and maintains an integrated pest management program and quality assurance program; (e) ensures maintenance of landscape irrigation and other landscape related systems; (f) plans, schedules, monitors and performs the maintenance and repairs of landscape, landscape equipment and vehicles; (g) leads, directs and trains a group of grounds staff in the maintenance of the landscape, vehicles and equipment and the clearing of ice and snow; (h) organizes daily schedule for self and grounds staff and informs supervisor of staff hours and absences; (i) may perform duties of Landscape Technician I and II; (j) plans and oversees the planting and maintenance of flowers, shrubs and seeding of grass; (k) drives and operates a variety of landscape and snow removal vehicles; (l) other related duties as required. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements**: **Education**: A graduate of a recognized Community College Horticultural program or equivalent, including the completion of the University’s horticulture apprentice program or in the opinion of the Employer has the equivalent in an educational requirement from a recognized certificate program(s), such as the Canadian Nurseries Trades Association program. **Experience**: Seven years of general landscape and vehicle maintenance experience is preferred. **Other**:Possession of a valid Provincial Class "G" driver's license, (may be required to possess Provincial Class "D" driver's license) possession of current pesticide and larvacide spraying licenses; mechanical ability, chainsaw operator’s certificate is required, well versed in plant health care programs and natural pesticide programs, physical ability to perform required duties, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), ability to lead, direct and train others; works under all weather conditions and may be required to work long and varied hours. **Shift details**: Monday-Friday, 6:00AM-2:30PM **NOTE**: Must be available to be On Call during the winter months for snow removal operations in accordance with the Collective Agreement. **Closing Date**:10/08/2024, 11:59PM ET **Employee Group**: Hourly / CUPE L3261 **Appointment Type**: Budget - Continuing **Schedule**: Full-Time **Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone**: Job Pay Rate - $32.54 **Job Category**:Facilities/Ancilliary Services
