For 80+ years, Kawartha Dairy has been proud to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, where it was founded, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA.

Today Kawartha Dairy operates 10 retail stores and services a wide range of customers, from grocery stores to foodservice establishments and of course, ice cream parlours. The company also provides custom production services to other food companies, using Kawartha’s expertise in the business to produce ice cream and other specialty dairy items to the exact specifications of these firms.

Reflecting the explosive growth in the brand and the business as a whole, Kawartha Dairy has recently constructed a 54,000-square-foot Distribution Centre just south of Bobcaygeon to serve its provincial operations. Investments are also underway to modernize the production plant, our systems and our infrastructure.

As an Operations Manager, Packaging on one of our two shifts you are responsible for the safe, effective and efficient operation of our equipment and the strict adherence to our processes, procedures and systems to ensure that we always maintain maximum productivity while never, ever compromising our quality.

**What You’ll Do**:

- Focus our Team Leaders and our production team members in executing to our daily production plan
- Implementation of process improvements to achieve efficiency improvements and waste reduction across our production floor
- Use Kaisan and Lean Principal Tools to develop and enhance current production methodologies
- Develop your staff into one cohesive and united Team that will be responsible for raw milk processing all the way to finished goods packaging through effective planning and continuous follow up
- Support Team Leaders in compliance to Nav, SQF, GMP, Measurements supporting new initiatives in waste reduction and effective labour utilization
- Enhance and maintain a performance driven culture for the entire plant
- Deliver ice cream and milk products to attain daily production targets
- Own the labor, equipment and process scheduling for efficiency and effectiveness
- Provide leadership in the transition of the plant towards an SQF Food Safety Certification while developing a strong food safety culture
- Promote a safe work environment and support the company health and safety policy
- Communicate and support the goals and mission of the facility and Kawartha Dairy
- Ensure the appropriate standard operating procedures are developed and maintained in all areas of the dairy plant
- Maintain effective communication between shifts and other departments
- Deliver against key financial and operational targets in the areas of production attainment, labor management, safety, waste, and efficiency
- Enhance and maintain a first in class preventative maintenance program
- Participate in new product developments, formulations, evaluations
- Participate in the objective setting, plan development and performance review of the production facility
- Responsible for working in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager to identify and prioritize major (chronic) maintenance issues
- Initiate and develop action plans to resolve issues
- Communicate directly with staff regarding the implementation of quality assurance policies and procedures including the HACCP program
- coordinate with other departments and outside vendors to ensure adequate supply of raw materials and packaging
- Provide maintenance planning schedules for other departments to maintain adequate stock requirements
- Regularly review and analyze material and expense costs to determine maintenance performance standards and to manage maintenance department budget
- Provide for monitoring methods and processes to ensure maintenance cost containment
- Provide for adequate maintenance procedures to ensure HACCP requirements are met, as well as GMP’s, environmental standards, and standard operating procedures
- Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and related problems
- Lead a team of subordinates and assign work areas to them
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the Production department
- Provide training to ensure all staff are adequately trained in procedures
