Academic Coach

**Position Purpose and**Summary**
The Academic Coach helps students with academic strategy development, cognitive complexity, and assignment preparation strategies. They approach student support through the lens of a coaching model rather than an instructional model. In this way, the focus of academic coaching is not task-based. Rather, it is to facilitate growth in self-awareness and metacognition towards the goal of learner autonomy, self-regulated learning, transferable skills, and personal wellness. The Academic Coach might need to adapt their approaches to different student demographics and different schedules or course-specific needs from semester to semester, as the university and student needs change.
**_ This is a full-time, in-person position on the Langley campus._**
**Key Areas of Accountability**
- Develop intentional and ongoing relationships with students.
- Work closely with the Academic Specialist who will triage and refer students to relevant support.
- Work collaboratively with other Academic Coaches on designing interventions and revising coaching curriculum.
- Assess student learning needs and help students create personal learning plans.
- Refer students to other academic supports in the Learning Commons.
- Meet students for one-on-one coaching sessions (the primary work of the coach).
- Teach Study Skills classes, as assigned.
- Present workshops and/or run study halls throughout each semester.
- Keep careful and confidential records of sessions.
- Pursue ongoing professional development in the field of coaching.

**Standards & Requirements**
Education: Master’s degree in humanities, social sciences, or education; work towards a Master’s degree will be considered; an undergraduate degree plus specialized certifications will be considered
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in higher education, especially experience in tutoring, coaching, or teaching at the university level; experience in K-12 context will be considered if combined with specialized knowledge related to learning.
