We are looking for a BPV Inspector for the Regina area. Our BPV inspectors ensure the safety of boiler and pressure vessel operation in Saskatchewan through the conduct of inspections. Our BPV Inspectors also investigate accidents and incidents, interpret and enforce applicable legislation and regulations, approve licenses and permits, review and authorize technical plans, and provide technical advice to clients and operators.

To qualify for this position, you will have a:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) or a First Class Power Engineer’s Certificate, and one year of experience in boiler systems or pressure vessel design, fabrication operation, or inspection.
- Diploma in Engineering Technology or a Second Class Power Engineer’s Certificate, combined with three years of experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Develop positive working relationships by consulting and working effectively with other organizations, colleagues, staff, individuals, and communities;
- Drive safely, as evidenced through a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and an acceptable driving record;
- Communicate clearly in both verbal and written form to a variety of individuals in a manner appropriate to the audience, in order to effectively convey safety code requirements, write inspection and investigation reports and prepare correspondence and reports to ensure regulatory compliance and program delivery;
- Exercise sound technical judgment in approving initial and in-service installations, directing corrective actions, and responding to accidents or complaints;
- Plan, organize, and prioritize workloads taking into consideration changing priorities and demands in order to maximize inspection results and ensure areas of focus are addressed;
- Complete and maintain all required certifications and training programs assigned to this position;
- Satisfy the physical demands of the position including working in confined spaces and performing detailed visual inspections.

Typical duties include:

- Conduct inspections on in-service boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration plants, and pressure piping for operating and mechanical deficiencies/defects;
- Verify necessary calculations during fabrications, alterations, or repairs of boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration plants, and pressure piping in manufacturing plants and at field sites to enable acceptance of code products provincially, nationally, and internationally; certifies equipment data reports, repair/alteration reports signifying adherence or acceptance of codes;
- Attend mandatory ASME and National Board joint reviews demonstrating provincial manufacturers’ quality control systems are in compliance with ASME and National Board requirements;
- Conduct pressure welding and brazing tests;
- Review licenses and quality control programs of organizations involved in the installation, distribution, operation, and repair or altering of equipment.

Work will be assigned in designated areas throughout the province. As a result, our inspectors are required to travel and stay overnight as needed to provide efficient delivery of services, especially to remote areas.
