Volunteer Tutor

YouthLink offers Pathways to Education, a community based program designed to lower the dropout rate among high-school students from economically disadvantaged communities. The role of the Pathways Tutor is to provide academic support and to engage in positive role modeling for youth during program time. You will work with students from Grade 9 to 12 in the Markham and Eglinton area (Scarborough Village).

The role of the **Pathways Tutor** is to provide academic support and to engage in positive role modeling for youth during program time.

**Tutor Responsibilities**:

- Understand the challenges to high-school success the participants face with the ability to maintain a positive and upbeat demeanor with all youth
- Participate consistently in face-to-face and/or virtual group tutoring sessions and work both one-on-one and in small groups assisting students with academic tasks/homework
- Availability of a minimum of 2 hours a week during the school year

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience and/or interest in working with youth
- Ability to build rapport, make connections, motivate and develop trust
- Develop study strategies, organizational, time management skills, actively engage and encourage students
- Valid police reference check is mandatory

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 10 months

- Evening shift

All volunteers are required to wear masks and been vaccinated (2-dose minimum) for COVID-19

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Scarborough, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

- Secondary School (required)

**Experience**:

- teaching: 1 year (preferred)
