Our **after-school Chess program** prepares students to become confident problem-solvers through a structured, engaging curriculum.
Using puzzles, stories, and real gameplay, we make learning chess fun, competitive, and meaningful.
We are adding Chess to our existing Math & Robotics programs and looking for someone to work with us in the Oakville area.
**Do you have**:
Strong communication and time management skills
Passion for chess and working with young children
Ability to explain concepts in a fun and accessible way
Teaching/tutoring experience
Friendly, patient, and organized classroom presence
Comfort with basic digital tools (e.g., MS Office, Google Drive, chess platforms)
**Chess Instructor Job Description**:
Conduct weekly chess sessions using our step-by-step curriculum
Teach the principles of chess tactics, strategy, openings, and endgames
Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and sportsmanship
Track student progress and maintain basic attendance records
Lead small tournaments and practice matches
Provide regular feedback to parents
Help grow the program through demo sessions and open houses
**Qualifications**:
- Required: Excellent knowledge of chess rules and beginner/intermediate strategy
- Required: Ability to engage elementary-aged students (JK-Grade 6)
- Preferred: Coaching/mentoring or chess tournament experience
- Preferred: Background in education, youth programs, cognitive skill development
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage and motivate students
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to students and parents
- Experience in tutoring or providing individualized instruction is highly desirable
- Ability to educate diverse learners with varying abilities and backgrounds
- Proficient in using educational technology tools to enhance teaching effectiveness
- A passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for all students
- Reliable transportation to locations in the Oakville area
