Core Faculty: Master of Psychology in Health

The Assistant/Associate Professor (Core Faculty) in the Master of Psychology in Health & Wellness program plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of leaders in wellness, health promotion, and mental health equity. Core Faculty provide graduate-level instruction, mentor students through capstone projects, engage in program and curriculum development, and participate actively in the life of the university.
This role is designed for an educator-scholar who thrives at the intersection of psychology, health, and health equity. Faculty bring their professional expertise to the classroom and the community, helping students translate theory into practice across health care, education, workplace, and community systems. Core Faculty support Adler University’s mission by cultivating learning environments that inspire innovation, resilience, and socially responsible practice.
Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with academic rank: $80,000-$130,000 CAD.
**Education/Experience**:
- Terminal (doctoral) degree in General Psychology, Health Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Public Health, or a closely related field required.
- Demonstrated excellence in graduate-level teaching and student mentorship over the past 3-5 years.
- Professional experience in health psychology, wellness, public health, or related applied practice (e.g., health care, policy, or community health).
- Record of scholarship in wellness promotion, prevention, applied research, or policy preferred.
**Certifications/Licenses**:
- Membership in a professional body preferred (e.g., CCPA).
- Membership in the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), or eligibility for membership.
- Additional credentials in health promotion, wellness coaching, or applied health practice an asset.
**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**
- Expert knowledge of health psychology, wellness promotion, and public health.
- Strong record of teaching, advising, and supervision at the graduate level.
- Demonstrated commitment to socially responsible practice.
- Ability to mentor students in applied research and community-engaged projects.
- Strong research acumen, and abilities.
- Established record of impactful research with a forward-looking publication plan to advance the field.
- Excellent collaboration, networking, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstration of Emotional Intelligence and professional maturity.
- Ability to proactively identify challenges and co-create solutions.
- Skilled in receiving feedback with professionalism and adaptability, using it to strengthen performance and outcomes.
- Strong demonstration of alignment with Adler’s mission and values.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and learning management systems.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**:
- **Teach and Facilitate Learning**: Deliver graduate-level courses in the Health & Wellness Psychology program using innovative, evidence-informed, and student-centered approaches. Incorporate diverse perspectives and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for applied practice.
- **Student Mentorship and Advising**: Provide academic and professional advising to students, including supervision of capstone projects and reviews. Support students in developing applied skills, professional identity, and pathways for career advancement.
- **Curriculum and Program Development**: Contribute to curriculum design, assessment, and program innovation. Ensure courses remain aligned with current research, emerging practice trends, and the evolving needs of health and wellness professionals.
- **Research and Scholarship**: Maintain an active research and publication agenda in health and wellness psychology. Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed journals, academic conferences, books, and professional forums, contributing to the advancement of the field and enhancing the university’s scholarly reputation.
- **Service and Governance**: Actively participate in university service, including committees, Faculty Council, program meetings, and program reviews. Contribute to accreditation processes, learning outcomes assessment, and initiatives that support academic quality and institutional growth.
- **Student Recruitment and Retention**: Support recruitment efforts by engaging with prospective students and community partners. Contribute to student retention and success initiatives by fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments.
- **Community and Professional Partnerships**: Build and sustain collaborative relationships with health care, education, workplace, and community organizations. Strengthen practicum and applied learning opportunities for students through external partnerships.
- **Mission and Values Alignment**: Model and promote Adler University’s mission, vision, and values of in all teaching, scholarship, and service activities.
