**Duties**:
**Work environment**:
The student will work within the Ruminant System Science research program at the Lethbridge Research & Development Centre. The student will be working alongside a research scientist, research technicians, undergraduate students, graduate students, as well as collaborations with other research programs. Work across ruminant animal facilities, the laboratory, and at the computer can be expected.

**Education**:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a doctorate program at a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in : animal science, agriculture or any other related fields.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in working within a research setting.
Experience* in conducting laboratory analysis on samples associated with animal science research.
Experience* in conducting life cycle analysis related to beef cattle production and/or food loss and waste.
- In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Operational requirements:
Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
Ability and willingness to work safely with animals in various animal facilities, including a willingness to use personal protective equipment as required.
Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and this must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
Ability and willingness to periodically work flexible hours as dictated by animal research.
Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight travel to obtain training and to acquire/transport research animals/samples (e.g. from collaborating institutions).
