**Project Manager**:
**Primary Purpose**: The Construction Project Management Office of Planning, Design, and Construction (PD&C) requires an experienced Project Manager to provide leadership of minor projects with increasing exposure on major projects (in excess of $500K) as experience and performance increases. The work will include the coordination of consultants, contractors, trades, and communication with various University of Saskatchewan departments. Working closely with stakeholders from inception through completion, the goal is to ensure projects are designed, developed, and delivered to meet or exceed campus client expectations in terms of functionality, schedule, and budget.
**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Manager, Construction Project Management Office, this position operates in a high-volume, complex, and dynamic environment with shifting priorities and deadlines. The Project Manager is required to build and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders fostering a collaborative, problem-solving atmosphere. The Project Manager is expected to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines, routinely addressing internal and external complexities impeding the delivery of service. Customer service is our primary goal with stewardship of the campus's physical assets strongly embedded within the services we provide. This position works in a hybrid office setting with regular visits to (construction) sites.
**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:
- Provide project leadership, direction and delegation using project management best practices to carry large projects through to completion ensuring efficiency and timely execution.
- Determine the scope of projects in conjunction with campus partners and evaluate projects with respect to the university sustainability goals, planning & development standards and guidelines, U of S space assignments, architectural acceptability, and best practices.
- Manage project budget from development through to completion including appropriate change orders and clear communication with clients.
- Develop and manage project schedule.
- Develop the overall project risk strategy to which appropriate university risk tolerance is applied.
- Develop preliminary and final designs and estimates in conjunction with internal units and external consultants.
- Provide timely and innovative responses to interpret project problems as they arise and to develop and implement decisions and actions quickly as per change management best practices.
- Provide safety leadership by holding contractors accountable to contractual and legislative safety obligations, and by ensuring safety supervisors, experts and inspectors are engaged as necessary.
- Keep knowledge current with respect to National Building Codes, safety, and other applicable standards (sustainability, life cycle costing, product warranties & costs, current construction products & practices, ergonomic design, and campus standards).
- Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.
**Education**: The designation of Project Management Professional (PMP) would be considered an asset. An engineering degree, a diploma in Architectural Technology or equivalent and eligibility for membership in the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) and LEED accreditation would be considered assets.
**Experience**:Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in project management of construction works, including preparation of budgets, schedules, and contract documents. Verifiable experience delivering projects in various procurement models, including construction management, design-bid-build, and design-build. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Project experience in institutional type buildings will be considered an asset. Project Management experience as the owner is considered an asset.
**Skills**: Demonstrate strong and effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills both written and verbal. Demonstrate ability to handle responsibility and authority to make decisions. Strong problem solving and conflict management, analytical and negotiating skills. Working knowledge of provincial statutes, regulations, codes, legislation, etc. that relate to the job. Ability to lead, instruct, and guide a team from project inception through to completion. The ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple and concurrent priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Project is required. Knowledge of and experience with university policies, priorities and goals would be an asset.
