**Duties**:
VIU's Faculty of Health and Human Services' Professional Development and Training Department is seeking instructors to deliver courses within the Activity Assistant certificate program both online and at the Nanaimo Campus for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Duties include:
- Plan, prepare and instruct program courses;
- use creative adult learning strategies in the preparation and delivery of online, in-person and hybrid classroom learning;
- assessment and evaluation of student learning;
- recording and submitting grades;
- providing support to students to ensure their success;
- working collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners.

Please note that start dates may vary depending on the course(s) being taught.
**Required Qualifications**:
Recreational Therapy Degree qualification from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum 5 years of current and relevant experience as a Recreational Therapist.
- Demonstrated competence for teaching or training adult learners, using a variety of online and in-person teaching strategies to address different learning styles and a diverse student population.
- A solid understanding of the scope and role of an Activity Assistant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the content covered in the course(s) being taught.
- Ability to work with a high degree of independence while maintaining effective working relationships with relevant VIU department staff and partners.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of relevant technology and software.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Provincial Instructors Diploma
- Experience instructing in a post-secondary educational institution
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms, for example D2L
