Field Agronomist

Contract Duration: 6 - 8 months

Location: Brunkild, Manitoba

Position Description:
Assist in general day-to-day operations of Taproot Research Ltd. This includes field activities involved throughout the growing season for carrying out research crop trials, starting from field preparation through to harvest and data submission including, but not limited to:

- Supporting the research manager and clients to establish agricultural field trials (i.e., utilizing Integrated Pest Management, field preparation, planting, irrigation, and harvest).
- Scout crops frequently and report on insect, weed, plant health, and irrigation needs.
- Train and manage summer research associates to aid in all field activities.
- Manage trial protocols from multiple clients and complete all agronomic and qualitative trial assessments required.
- Participate in site planning, tour planning and trial capacity planning.
- Draft and implement standard operating procedures for TapRoot Research Ltd trials, safety procedures and machine operation.
- Operate farm equipment on-site.
- Responsible for supplies and parts inventory.
- This role will be responsible for all field trial sites with an emphasis on plot quality.

Qualifications:

- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent (Class 3 is preferred, but not required)
- Minimum of BSc degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Plant Sciences or related field of study
- Experience with implementation of applied agricultural field trials preferred.
- Agronomic experience in row crops highly desired.
- Ability to work outside.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and take ownership of trials.
- Familiarity with ARM and/or data management and notetaking for agricultural field trials.

Compensation:

- Hourly compensation dependent upon experience and education background.
- Flexible work hours dependent upon in-season activities and demands.
- Vehicle and fuel provided for business purposes.
- Bonus based on success of trial program.

Contract length: 8 months

Pay: $52,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
