**Hours of Work**:37.5 per week flexible based on program needs
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Community Education. The Cultural Coordinator is responsible for building strong, respectful relationships with program participants, especially Indigenous youth and families. This role supports the YWCA’s Community Programs and works directly with the Sr Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Decolonization by helping to create and deliver programming that is culturally safe, healing-centered, and welcoming to all. Working closely with the Community Programs department, the Cultural Coordinator ensures our programs reflect and respect Indigenous cultures, values, and ways of knowing. This includes offering land-based programming, organizing drop-in or scheduled activities, and building relationships with Indigenous Nations and communities. A big part of this role is connecting with schools, mental health professionals, and youth-serving organizations to make sure young people have access to as many supports and opportunities as possible. The coordinator will also help raise awareness about YWCA programming by building partnerships and promoting our work in the community. We are looking for someone who is creative, proactive, and passionate about supporting Indigenous youth. This role may grow or change over time based on the needs of the community.
**Responsibilities**:
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, and building relationships with Indigenous peoples, organizations and communities.
- Book and schedule Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and Cultural Helpers to support programming.
- Plan and host cultural events, ceremonies, and land-based activities.
- Support the design and delivery of culturally safe and responsive programming for youth and families.
- Maintain up-to-date schedules, calendars, and program plans.
- Work closely with the Community Programs team and other departments to ensure programs are welcoming and inclusive.
- Connect with Indigenous communities to offer programming related to gender-based violence prevention, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention training.
- Share knowledge and teachings related to Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions in a respectful and appropriate way.
- Help increase awareness and visibility of YWCA Indigenous programming in the community.
- Build partnerships with schools, youth agencies, and mental health professionals to support youth access to services.
- Support ongoing learning and cultural safety practices within the YWCA.
- General administrative, budgeting and data collection to support grand writing & maintenance of files.
- Flexibility to work within an ever-changing environment and the ability to pick up tasks and responsibilities as required by the greater Community Programs work group.
**Qualifications**:
- Lived experience rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems, community involvement, and/or advocacy will be prioritized.
- Formal education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Services or a related field is also considered an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and/or youth.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to provide integrated support.
- Familiarity working with schools and school administration.
- Evening and weekend availability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and First Aid/CPR certification.

Pay: $51,187.50-$53,746.88 per year
