**Location: Brisbane, Australia.**
As a key member of Barrick´s Asia-Pacific Exploration leadership team, the Principal Geologist will focus on adding new exploration and growth opportunities to the portfolio through generative and new business activities, and assist to build the technical capabilities of in country teams. This position reports to the Vice President Exploration Asia-Pacific.
**Role and Responsibilities**:
- Lead and drive project generation in the region via terrane assessment, target generation, and tenure selection, with a focus on defining new opportunities for Au and Cu.
- Manage the acquisition of the appropriate datasets and support execution of work programs required to advance projects to the next decision point.
- Active participation in creating robust geological 3D models from regional, district to deposit scale.
- Maintain up-to-date views of external opportunities across the region (emerging and those that pass our filters); Identify, assess and support evaluation of third-party opportunities
- Strong collaboration with technically skilled team to deliver Barrick´s exploration strategy and growth ambitions
- Define and implement best geoscience practices in exploration.
- Develop and maintain a safe working environment for all employees, contractors and the public and ensure adherence to all regulatory and industry-standard working practice
- Comply with all statutory and reporting requirements within the region
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology; Master’s or PhD Degree preferred
- Minimum 15 years progressive exploration experience with a strong emphasis in geological models, mineral economics, and leadership.
- A strong foundation of fundamentals of geology, exploration procedures and business acumen
- Demonstrated ability to create strategic plans and execute to deliver significant results.
- In-depth technical experience in exploration for multiple gold deposit styles, especially porphyry and epithermal model types
- Experience in the Asia-Pacific region and knowledge of its geology and prospectivity
- Strong and direct communication style that gets to the point in a timely manner; responding to issues and challenges head on
- Excellent data and business analysis skills - ability to conduct detailed analysis, define milestones, provide business logic and calculations, meet reporting requirements
- Ability to deliver concise business focused presentations and reports in simple to understand format to a broad audience of cross functional peers and stakeholders
