**Job Summary**:The Vision and Hearing program is supported by RETSD, Manitoba Education, and the Winnipeg Regional
Health Authority. Under the direction of the Manager of Community Initiatives, the Vision and Hearing Coordinator leads a team of Screeners to screen students’ vision and hearing every Fall. Working with schools, this role coordinates the dates and room accommodations. The Coordinator assist with training and providing guidance to Screeners. The vision screening throughout the Division is for grades Kindergarten, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11. Hearing Screening is for grades
Kindergarten and grade 1. The screening is designed to detect signs of possible vision and hearing difficulties which may impact learning and school progress. The vision and hearing screening provides information on students who may require further testing from an Audiologist and/or Optometrist.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Organizes the room accommodation and dates at each school for screeners
- Assigns screeners to various school sites
- Assists with screening where required
- Obtains school list of students who require screening
- Organizes staff packages: schedules, school contact administrator lists, school student list, manuals, ID tags
- Organize the equipment carts and supplies required
- Requests for additional equipment from Manitoba Education
- Use vision Instaline and Biopter equipment
- Performs hearing screening using audiometer
- Assists with computer access for new staff
- Documents results of screening
- Provides documents to data entry staff for processing
- Attend required training on equipment use for screening
- Works as a team member with other screening staff
- Able to travel to various schools in RETSD
**Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities**:
- Qualifications_
- A grade 12 education and two years of relevant work experience or a combination of relevant education and experience
- External applicants, upon hire, must supply a Criminal Record search and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check
- Driver’s license required and access to a reliable vehicle
- Previous experience with vision equipment (Instaline and biopter), and hearing equipment (audiometer) is an asset
- Previous experience with the vision and hearing screening process within the Division is an asset. Other similar experience may be considered
- Skills and abilities _
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with children/youth
- Works as a team member with other screening staff
- **Strong judgement and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy**:
- Ability to be flexible to meet the varying social, emotional, and behavioural needs of students
**Physical Demands and Working Conditions**:
- Physical demands: _
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds for equipment cart
- Requirement to stand, bend and crouch
- Ability to drive a vehicle
- Ability to stay seated for long periods
- Working conditions: _
- Some exposure to fluctuating outdoor temperatures and weather conditions while travelling to various schools in RETSD
