**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- The Nurse Manager works with the ED Clinical Care Leader and patient care team to support and promote quality care delivery for the Emergency Department patients and families
- Provides 24 hour accountability for coordinating quality patient care, promoting and maintaining a professional nursing practice environment, facilitating staff in continuous quality improvement/risk management activities and is a key member in leading and directing hospital projects, committees and programs
- Responsible for monitoring and meeting the strategic targets set by the organization, including patient flow targets, budget preparation and budget analysis

- Clinical/Professional Practice:_
- Responsible for the provision of clinical service and ongoing operational management of the Emergency Department
- Responsible for the identifying, planning and facilitating quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Responsible for operationalizing the strategic plan for the Unit
- Responsible for ensuring that the care provided meets the Professional Standards for Nursing
- Leadership:_
- Creates an environment that promotes staff motivation and development, open communication and leading best practice in support of a shared vision
- Supports and facilitates the patient care team to provide coordinated, quality care and service for the patients
- Responsible for leading special or ongoing projects or initiatives
- Models positive acceptance towards change and supports others to adapt to change
- Represents QCH at external forums to promote community linkages and facilitate the continuum of care and standardized processes
- Resource Utilization / Management:_
- Responsible for managing human and financial resources, including planning resource requirements for the program, and collaborating with the Director to plan and monitor operational and capital budgets
- Responsible for managing human resources, including assessing staffing requirements, and scheduling/rotations
- Responsible for recruitment, retention and coaching of staff to ensure optimal performance
- Responsible for responding to, reviewing, researching and following up with complaints and incidents, and establishing plans to address arising issues
- To provide an environment that promotes continuous learning and professional staff development
**REQUIREMENTS**:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of recent clinical experience
- Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
- Membership with RNAO and appropriate professional associations and interest groups
- Recent leadership / management experience
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills
- Proven facilitation, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Demonstrated computer literacy
**PREFERRED**:
- Masters Degree
