Hours Temporary Full-time is 35 hours per week - up to 12 months

Other Travel through the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements
- Collect environmental samples of all types (following sample protocol and methodology) and follow the Chain of Custody procedure to ensure compliance and accuracy of results
- Liaise with outside agencies and different municipal divisions within the City and the public regarding solid waste management initiatives and requirements and provide information requiring varying degrees of research and personal contact
- Prepare and update information for landfill reports, calculate annual refuse volumes, select monitoring well and surface water station locations and related installation details and collection of water levels
- Complete landfill surveys, stake limits of fill and elevations for landfilling as well as other locations, as required; Survey and quantify leaf and yard quantities
- Coordinate and oversee the installation and decommissioning of monitoring wells in accordance with required legislation, Ministry of Environment correspondence and other relevant agencies
- Assist in the research on new technologies and program development related to the waste management strategy
- Liaise with public review committees and participate in other public related events as required to support waste management programs and development, assisting with preparation of necessary agendas, minutes and information for related meetings/events
- Responsible for updating summary tables for chemical analysis results from environmental sampling
- Responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, sampling and reporting of a leachate spray irrigation system
- Assist in the preparation of annual landfill status reports for the submission to the Ministry of the Environment and review consultant reports for accuracy
- Assist with coordinating contracts relating to waste management
- Manage and review data related to landfill operations and diversion programs
- Assist with preparing tendering specifications for capital contracts
- Liaise with the Regulatory Compliance Officer to ensure compliance in all facets of Landfill operations
- Collect, assemble and interpret data gathered from landfill sites and provide recommendations
- Investigate and report on waste management and contaminated sites
- Perform other related duties as assigned

**Skills/Education Required**
- Post-secondary Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
- Experience in Waste Management including environmental sampling and technical interpretation;
- Ability to obtain up to a Class I WWT (wastewater treatment) systems certification and Class I WWC (wastewater collection) systems certification within a reasonable timeframe and maintain as per legislation
- Knowledge of current environmental legislation in relation to waste management and landfill operations
- Working knowledge of various field sampling equipment
- Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
- Demonstrated customer-service skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to deal with multiple demands
- Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
- Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required
