TRIUMF
, Canada's particle accelerator centre. We are a publicly funded, not-for-profit research lab that is a hub for discovery and innovation.
Our mission is to serve as Canada’s particle accelerator centre. We advance isotope science and technology, both fundamental and applied. We collaborate across communities and disciplines, from nuclear and particle physics to the life and material sciences. We discover and innovate, inspire and educate, creating knowledge and opportunity for all.
TRIUMF's diverse community of nearly 600 multidisciplinary researchers, engineers, technicians, tradespeople, staff, and students create a unique incubator for Canadian excellence, as well as a portal to premier global collaborations. Fueling innovation and improving lives, we are committed to accelerating discovery and shaping a better world.
The position requires a high degree of collaboration with RIB users, RIB operations, RIB beam delivery group, targets & ion sources R&D as well as target production & operations group.
Details:
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
- Supports radioactive ion beam delivery through Laser Ion Source operation, Polarizer Operation and Yield measurements.
- Operates the Laser Ion Source Test stand to develop new or improved laser resonance ionization schemes under the general theme of “improved intensity, improved purity, improved reliability” to advance the performance of TRIUMF’s RIB beam delivery.
This may include:
- making routine decisions related to project and team member roles but seeking approval on matters outside of scope
- Selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions
- Working on problems of diverse scope requiring evaluation of identifiable factors
- Leading procurement of specialized hardware requiring requirements and specification
Specific:
- Provides professional support to the group activities at a fully qualified professional level and to the operation of laser ion source systems and polarized beam systems.
- Supervise and guide students within the Laser Applications group.
- Present results from in-source laser resonance ionization spectroscopy at the laser ion source test stand, evaluate data and provide internal reports and documentation.
- Present spectroscopy results on scientific conferences and workshops and publish results.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Hands on knowledge pulsed titanium:sapphire laser systems and laser resonance ionization spectroscopy at a radioactive ion beam facility
- Good knowledge of atomic-, optical and molecular physics and basic knowledge of nuclear physics.
- Working knowledge of instrument control, data acquisition and instrument design.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively network with internal and external professionals and the ability to work in a team.
- Able to network with senior internal and external professionals in own area of expertise.
- Ability to work at on on-line facility with changing work schedules and time critical deliverables.
