This is recreation work supervising public skate programs, and other arena activities ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants. Includes skate shop duties and some custodial and minor preventative maintenance tasks as required. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of services provided and conformance to established practices. Attendant may participate in related activities and perform hosting duties.
**Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to**:
- Enforces general rules of conduct in accordance with established procedures to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
- Ensures skates and helmets are maintained in a safe condition in accordance within the established procedures and protocol.
- Organizes public skate and arena activities in accordance with established program plans and procedures.
- Represents the department and City in a positive, professional and customer friendly manner.
- Creates an environment that caters to the enjoyment of the clientele while maintaining the safety of the participants.
- May perform skate sharpening duties.
- Ensures the public areas such as arena, lobby, washrooms, and the skate shop are clean, safe and free of obstacles by picking up litter, etc.
- Performs set up and take down of equipment required for activities.
- Checks that equipment is in good working order, making minor adjustments and informing a supervisor when repairs are required.
- Checks for proof of admission in accordance within established procedures.
- Maintains a variety of routine records and reports.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Completion of Grade 11
- Leadership Training
- Previous work experience as an Arena Attendant or experience in a related activity
- Standard First Aid
- Working knowledge of safe skating practices and demonstrated ability to skate proficiently.
- Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written communications.
- Ability to answer general questions related to skating programs and skating equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals and groups of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to maintain control and exercise influence with tact and diplomacy in a professional and calm manner.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a skate-sharpening machine is an asset
- Conflict resolution experience is an asset

- An hourly starting wage of $21.52 (2025 rate of pay), plus 12% in lieu of statutory benefits and statutory holidays, and a living wage adjustment (total compensation - $28.77/hour)

**Hours of work**:
- Variety of shifts available - daytime, evenings and weekends
