Maintenance Technician

**Maintenance Technician | Thermex Metal Treating |$25-$30**

The Maintenance Technician works with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure all equipment and systems in the shop are running reliably. The position is accountable for all equipment and plant systems operations, including daily walk-arounds and monitoring of equipment and operating systems, responding to issues, and analyzing problems and recommending solutions. The Maintenance Technician conducts equipment and plant systems maintenance and routine preventative maintenance, responds to equipment breakdowns and outages, and uses established system to maintain records.

**Specific Accountabilities**

**1. Equipment and plant systems operation**
- Keep all equipment and plant systems running, and ensure reliable equipment operation.
- Communicate with operators and managers regarding equipment issues.
- Develop understanding of all the key operating systems in the plant (Examples: water cooling system, nitrogen generation system, quench oil distribution, etc.)
- Assist with monitoring the operating systems and responding to issues - (Example: alarm indicating a pump not working.)
- Conduct daily walk around to look at all the systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Analyze problems and determine solution required. Determine whether the problem is routine or whether equipment shut down is required.
- Recommend solutions and work with Maintenance Supervisor to resolve problems.
- Fill-in for Maintenance Supervisor as needed.
- Learn and develop basic heat-treating operational knowledge.

**2. Routine Preventative Maintenance (PM)**
- Conduct day-to-day routine PM tasks on all equipment and systems.
- Develop, maintain and follow PM schedules for all equipment.
- Maintain detailed records of PM’s and actions within BlueStreak.
- Assist with keeping maintenance bay clean and organized.

**3. Equipment and plant systems maintenance**
- Perform routine maintenance independently.
- Assist Maintenance Supervisor with complex maintenance tasks.
- Participate in project planning, shutdowns, and working with contractors as required.

**4. Respond to equipment breakdowns and unplanned system outages.**
- Assist with repair of equipment and dealing with equipment outages.
- Be available for 24 hr on-call to respond to outages, on a rotating schedule with Maintenance Supervisor.
- Be able to restart plant/building after a power failure.

**5. Administrative and support tasks to develop and maintain reliable equipment operation.**
- Maintain critical spare parts inventory. Develop list for each piece of equipment.
- Maintain maintenance records (BlueStreak)
- Keep track of and secure tools.

**Education/Experience, Knowledge and Skills**
- Grade 12 education and 1-2 years of Maintenance/Millwright experience, working towards a ticket is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Basic experience and knowledge of machinery, pumps, blowers, electronic controls.
- Supplemental courses including WHMIS, First Aid, APPA standards, and Project Management would be an asset.
- Completion of, or willingness to attend special courses, meetings, or training as required.
- Ability to perform activities of preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated ability to inspect, repair and install equipment.
- Experience with maintenance outage/turn-around response.

**Salary**: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
