**Research Scientist**

The Mackenzie Applied Research Association (MARA) is a non-profit applied agriculture research and extension organization located in Fort Vermilion, Alberta. MARA serves producers in Mackenzie County, one of the northernmost commercial agricultural regions in Canada.

MARA is looking for a highly motivated, well-organized, professional to fill the full-time position as a Research Scientist. This position reports to the MARA board.

Key responsibilities and description
- Work with all staff and MARA board to develop, implement and manage the research and extension program at MARA
- Crafting and proposing novel, significantly rigorous research ideas
- Co - steering joint research undertakings
- Spearheading data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results
- Jointly review data and assist the Research Manager with writing reports
- Grant writing and securing sufficient pertinent funding to supplement the MARA program

Required Qualifications
- A person should be legally eligible to work in Canada
- A minimum of a master’s degree in agriculture sciences or a related field is required.
- Experience in small plot and field scale agricultural research
- Ability to write reports based on trial results and findings
- Ability to work effectively in the field and office environments.
- Working knowledge of various computer software programs including statistical software packages like R-studio, Genstat, Microsoft Office etc.
- Strong writing skills & the ability to communicate fluently in English are essential in this role in order to make presentations to varied audiences
- A valid class 5 driver's license or the equivalent is required
- Successful applicants must pass a RCMP background check (at a cost to MARA)

- Highly passionate, self-motivated with ability to engage stakeholders and delivering pertinent applied research and professional accountability
- Positive attitude, ability to work in team, lead and motivate others
- Farming background and experience in handling and operating farm equipment would be considered as an asset

**Benefits**:

- Starting salary of $ 60,000- 70,000 per year based on education and experience
