The Muskoka Lakes Association (MLA) board has created a summer job where entire focus will be increasing membership. Though our membership is at one of its highest levels in a decade, many locals, long-time and new cottagers are not aware of the MLA and our mission of responsible stewardship and enjoyment of the unique environment of the Muskoka Lakes.
This sales position is ideal for someone with a strong connection to Muskoka and a passion for the responsible development and enjoyment of Muskoka. We are looking for sales experience, an outgoing personality and proven skills in developing leads and speaking with potential members.
Remuneration for this job is very competitive and includes a base salary and commission for new membership sales
**Membership Salesperson, Muskoka Lakes Association**
The Membership Salesperson will be the Muskoka Lakes Association’s front-line position for increasing MLA membership. Increasing membership is critical to the ongoing success of the MLA in advocating for responsible stewardship and enjoyment of the unique environment of the Muskoka Lakes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys developing leads and speaking with potential members.
This position officially reports to the General Manager, but the Membership Salesperson will be responsible to Steve White, Committee Member-Communications and Membership Committee.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
The Membership Salesperson is responsible for increasing membership by generating, developing and closing leads for new MLA members. They will be given lead generation and sales support from the Communications and Membership Committee. They will also attend an orientation and sales planning workshop at the beginning of their contract, as well as a weekly virtual sales performance review and coaching meeting.
There are three target segments to focus on:
1) Selling memberships to non-MLA members. This includes existing and new Muskoka lakefront property owners, as well as off-lake homeowners in the townships of Muskoka Lakes and Sequin and the towns of Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.
2) Renew members who have lapsed for two or more years.
3) Secondary Membership and Transitional Memberships. Contacting members who have adult children/residents (under 30 years old) listed in the yearbook. Suggest they be signed up as secondary members. In addition, identifying older adult children who are currently Secondary Members (30 years+) to consider transitioning to a full membership.
**Requirements**:
- Experience in Not-for-Profit Membership sales preferable
- A proven track-record in Sales is required
- Established work ethic and outgoing personality a must
- Ability to work independently with periodic support
- Knowledge of Muskoka and the MLA a definite asset
**Remuneration**
This position will be a four-month contract with a non-recoverable salary of $2,400.00 per month.
There will also be a commission of 25% on all new membership revenues ($150 annual membership fee) from the three target segments identified above, paid monthly. It is anticipated that monthly commissions would range between $750 and $1,500.
**Hours**
The Membership Salesperson will be expected to be both in the MLA office in Port Carling, as well as out in the field identifying, developing and closing new membership sales. Their sales duties will include attendance at MLA Events and some venues (Farmers’ Markets, Sailing and Aquatic Regattas, etc.). There will also be the need for at least one attendance at an evening Communications and Membership Committee meeting via Zoom.
The anticipated weekly hours worked will be roughly 35 hours a week.
