**Library Technician 1**:
**One (1) Part-Time (Temporary for 3 months with a possibility of extension) Position Available**
This is a unionized position
**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the CEO, the Library Technician 1 will be responsible for public circulation duties and the planning and implementation of programs. The incumbent will also assist clients with general reference questions and reader’s advisory. Promotion of programs, assisting patrons with technology help on computers or devices, and providing customer service are daily activities.
**Position Responsibilities**:
The usual responsibilities of the position are as follows:
- Performs routine circulation duties, which includes checking materials in and out, taking requests for materials not in the collection, collecting fines and fees, registering and updating members.
- Ensures that library materials are re-shelved in a timely and organized manner.
- Provides basic reference service in answering questions and demonstrating use of the library catalogue and guidance in the selection of library materials.
- Provides support to the public in computer use and online database.
- Provides face to face and virtual programming as needed.
- Creates promotional materials in both print, virtual, and video format.
- Maintains and promotes the local history database and collection.
- Collects statistical data as directed.
- Collects and distributes forms, information, and fees for the Township of Springwater.
- Assists with organization of block loans and rotations.
- Deals with the public in a courteous and efficient manner to promote a high standards of public relations at all times.
- Acts as a goodwill ambassador for the library, promoting the library’s values and services in all user interactions.
- Other duties as required
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Community College diploma in a related discipline; completion of the EXCEL certificate or Library Technician Diploma is considered an asset.
- Previous library experience is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the internet, computer hardware, software, and tablets or devices is required.
- Self-motivated and the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Must possess effective communication skills to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to maintain discretion and a high degree of confidentiality of information is critical.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and some evenings.
- Must be able to work at any branch location (Elmvale, Midhurst, Minesing); this position will require travel between all three branches of the Springwater Public Library.
- As a condition of employment, all applicants must be willing to submit a Criminal Records Search - Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable and in good standing to the Springwater Public Library.
**Rate of Pay**:
The rate of pay for this position is $26.05 per hour (2024 rate) plus statutory holidays and vacation pay as per the Employment Standards Act.
**Hours of Work**:
This position, with an anticipated start date beginning in October 2024, offers between 10 - 20 hours per week with a varying schedule to support library demand. Saturdays and some evenings will be required.
