Skilled Trades & Labour - On-Site - 4308 The Opportunity ** Company, Department**: Nova Scotia Power, Power Production-Trenton Generating Station **Location**: Trenton, NS - On-site **Type of Employment**: Permanent, Full Time - On - site **Salary**: $36.37 per hour, as per the NSPI/IBEW Collective Agreement **Closing Date**: July 19, 2025 We are looking for a** Utility worker I** to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient performance of general utility duties in the plant. Key elements of this role include: - As a member of the Trenton team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient performance of general utility duties including but not limited to oil lubrication work, heavy labour, routine maintenance work, cleaning of plant equipment and apparel, preventative maintenance duties, repair maintenance duties, removal and/or reinstallation of insulation and/or boiler cladding (including asbestos), light plumbing repairs, roofing repairs, environmental maintenance and control, vegetative control, etc. - You will also be expected to erect, dismantle and inspect lift staging. - You will be required to take training courses e.g: in-house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and other training courses related to your position. - You must be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. - You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. - You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives. - You will demonstrate your knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and your responsibilities under the Act. - You will take a very proactive approach to Safety in the Plant, and will demonstrate your commitment to the Risk Assessment Process consistently. These skills will make you successful: To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below: - A Grade XII education or equivalent, with reading and writing skills necessary to safely and effectively perform the duties of the position, is required. - You must be able to perform heavy labour duties with demonstrated skills in general plant requirements. - Being self-motivated and having the ability to get along well with others and work with minimum supervision is essential. A strong environmental awareness and dedication, with particular understanding and experience with recycling requirements and standards is an asset. - You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI. Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities - Must be able to lift 20-42 lbs. from floor to chest height, 10 lbs. overhead on a mínimal basis, and 10-20 lbs. above shoulder on a frequent to constant basis - Carry items weighing between 10-42 lbs. with one or two hands, use upper and whole body strength to push and pull 5-20 lbs. - Shovel constantly up to 20 lbs. while using firm grip strength to grasp shovel - Perform static reaching from shoulder to overhead occasionally and frequently at waist and lateral level - Perform frequent walking, bending, stooping, forward flexional with neck flexional movements while balancing on uneven surfaces - Perform standing, climbing, twisting while shoveling with neck extension and rotation movements occasionally - Perform sitting, kneeling, squatting, and crouching on a mínimal basis - Must be able to discriminate colours through vision We understand that experience comes in many forms, and we’re dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team.
