**Responsibilities**:

- Lead workshops pertaining to job search and employment skills, ensuring content and is up to date.
- Will teach work-related activities and requirements such as time and attendance rules; and learn appropriate work-related (including social) behaviours when dealing with supervisors and co-workers.
- Monitor client’s progress, develop solutions when the client experiences problems or is at risk of failure.
- The Employment Counsellor will deliver “Job Search Training” sessions to groups or one-on-one.
- Provide high quality service and delivery in an effective and cost efficient manner in keeping with contractual and legislative requirements
- Ensure all program materials are current and reflect the real world of work. This includes but is not limited to accurate labour market information and access to information, knowledge of current legislation such as Employment Standards, Human Rights, Occupational Health and Safety and Privacy legislation.
- Review referrals for JST services and participant profiles to identify special needs and/or vocational goal for each participant in order to customize the program to meet the individual needs of each participant.
- Maintain an active liaison with community groups, agencies and government in matters related to employment support services, labour market trends, potential work placement contacts, networking groups, financial supports etc.
- Encourage active involvement and interaction of all participants in order to foster a positive learning environment while at the same time meeting the individual needs of each participant.
- Assist participants with development of a marketable resume.
- Assist participants in the computer lab to access job search websites.
- Facilitate an active “job seekers club” to maintain participant involvement with their peers and potential employers.
- Actively assist participants in preparing, securing and maintaining suitable, reasonable and gainful employment, including a period of follow-up securing employment.
- Measure effectiveness of JST delivery and outcomes through client feedback surveys an tracking of progress successes.
- Demonstrative ethical standards and practices in all matters related to the delivery of JST.
- Maintain participant/client files both in hard copy and electronically in accordance with company standards.
- If required, refer clients to appropriate community services, depending on area of need.
- Vocational and personal strength and weakness become apparent early in the process and are based on actual, not projected or simulated experience; the client is able to receive immediate feedback, assistance, and follow-up from the support person; and an employer is able to take on and observe the progress of the consumer without a full commitment of personnel resources in the beginning of the process.
- Provide ongoing individual assessments to determine interpersonal skills and to assess individual needs.
- Assists clients in meeting job performance requirements through regular support, coaching and conflict and crisis intervention.
- Understand and communicate accommodations necessary for a diverse client group, often who have experience multiple barriers to employment, to employers
- Complete Intake Interview - Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals.
- Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing résumés and preparing for job interviews.
- Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information.
- Develops monthly summary reports for clients and collaterals and complete program administrative duties as necessary.
