**Summary**:
The ASL Interpreter provides sign language interpretation services in a variety of settings to facilitate communication between Deaf or hard of hearing, and hearing staff and clients of ISSofBC.

**How You’ll Make a Difference**
- Translate spoken language to sign language and sign language to spoken language between people who are hearing and people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Interpret in a variety of settings including meetings, training sessions, workshops, special events, etc. as required.
- Maintain cooperative and mutually supportive relationships by working collaboratively with others in providing equal access to information using ASL.
- Obtain the required preparatory materials to prepare for assignments or interpretation activities.
- Provide insight into the success of communication strategies to ISSofBC staff and management.
- Other related duties as required.

**What You Bring**:
Completion of Grade 12 plus graduation from a recognized Interpreter Training Program, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in interpreting American Sign Language (ASL), contact varieties and oral interpreting in an educational setting is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Proficiency in both ASL and English is essential. Designation as a Registered ASL - English Interpreter or Registered Sign Language Interpreter is an asset.

- Must have a clear understanding of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, ethics, history, best practices in the field and remain up to date with current issues related to the profession of interpreting.
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Possession of and the ability to maintain a clear provincial Criminal Record Check.
