$The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining a progressive speech language pathology program; providing assessment, treatment and consultation to clients with acquired and developmental communication and swallowing disorders; care and treatment of patients in accordance with hospital regulations and approved techniques of speech language pathology; investigating and studying trends and developments in speech language pathology practices and techniques and evaluating their adaptability to specific needs of program.

**Mandatory Requirements**:

- Graduate with a Degree or Masters in Speech and Language Pathology
- Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario
- Current certification in CPR
- Oral proficiency in French at a superior or advanced level is recommended

**Assets**:

- Experience in a hospital setting is preferred

**Duties**:

- Assesses and/or investigates all referrals received from assigned area. Completes patient assessment using appropriate formats and terminology according to departmental standards.
- Establishes, plans and implements patient programs. Ensures ongoing evaluation of patient and completes regular progress evaluations. Monitors effectiveness and progress of treatment program and decides when discharge is appropriate from speech-language pathology.
- Interacts with other health care professionals, family, and significant others involved in the patient's care and ensures the most functional and beneficial patient program plan is devised and implemented. Educates patient and family in the management of his/her problem.
- Ensures facilities and required materials are available when needed. Monitors patient programs to ensure a safe working environment is maintained and that program changes are initiated as required.
- Completes all relevant documentation according to departmental standards. Assures confidentiality of patient information in all interactions and documentation and, follows the regarding maintenance and flow of legal documents. Maintains relevant statistical information.
- Pursues new developments, trends and techniques and where appropriate incorporates these into patient programs to ensure the best quality of care available to the patients. Assumes and shares responsibility for the education of volunteers and allied health professionals regarding speech-language pathology mandates and treatment techniques.
